Autumn 2 2019-2020

Hello and welcome back to the second half of the Autumn term. We hope you’ve all had a lovely break! Please note the following information for this half term.

P.E.

P.E. will continue to be on the following days…

Tuesday  - Outdoor hockey with Mr Lindsay

Wednesday – Indoor gymnastics

Please can you check that your child has all the correct P.E. kit and that it is in class ASAP for this half term.

If your child attends sports club, please ensure they bring their P.E. kit back to school the following day.

School P.E kit:

Black shorts and/or jogging bottoms (for indoor and outdoor P.E.)

A white t-shirt

Black pumps or black trainers

P.E kits should be in school for the full half term and will be returned for washing at the end of each half term.

It is a HUGE help if names are on ALL items, including P.E bags! Many thanks in advance J

Spellings

Spellings will be sent home on a Thursday for a spelling test the following Thursday. Please encourage your child to look up their spellings in a dictionary as these are the statutory Y5/6 words that they should be including in their writing.

Times tables

It is a National Curriculum requirement that all children should know their times tables up to 12 x 12 – as well as the division facts. Times tables test will take place on a Tuesday. Please encourage your child to chant their times tables as much as possible. It is a great help when parents can test their children as much as possible at random. All children now have a TTRockstars account which they should use as part of their home learning. All children have been given their logins, this is the first letter of their first name, followed by a dot, then the first four letters of their surname – all in lower case. For example, j.blog

The password for all children is stephen again, this is all in lower case.

Reading

As part of their home learning, children are expected to practice their reading for 10 minutes at least 3 times a week

(Parents/Carers to sign their reading record and note down any comments).

Children will receive x1 raffle ticket for 3 signatures and x2 raffle tickets for more than 3 signatures in one week for our reading raffle on a Friday. Please encourage your child to use a dictionary to find the meaning of any new vocabulary they may find.

Children will visit the library each Friday to change their library books.

Please continue to support your child in practising their reading at home has this has a HUGE impact on their overall progress.

We look forward to working with you as a team so that the children can achieve their full potential. Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. There is always a member of the UKS2 team on door each morning who will pass on any messages.

Many thanks,

Miss K McTeague (Year 5 Teacher)

Miss J Grundy (Year 5 Teaching Assistant)
