Welcome to Year 1!
Hello children of Year 1, parents and carers.
I hope you are all safe and well.
We are missing you all so much!
Below are ‘some’ ideas and examples of home learning tasks that you can be doing to keep busy during our school closure time.
They are just examples, do not feel any pressure to complete all of these.
The most important thing at this time is to stay safe, not to worry and to be happy!
☺️ We will all be back together again soon ☺️
Happy half term year 1!
Well done to everyone for trying so hard with home learning during this very difficult time and staying safe and staying happy!
Below are 3 projects for you to choose from and try if you get bored during the 2 weeks half term holiday.
There is no pressure to do a project, they are only there if you need them!
Enjoy a very well deserved break, hopefully in the sunshine! ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

This Week’s Writing Challenge ✍️ ✍️ ✍️
For your writing challenge this week I would like you to choose a favourite character from a book.
I would like you to try and draw your character on a piece of paper and label your character with describing words (adjectives).
Remember to use your phonics to sound out words that you do not know.
Use the phonics/letter mats to help you.
As an extra challenge see if you can use your adjectives to write some full sentences about your character!
Top tip: Remember to check for a capital letter, full stop and spaces between words for full sentences!
Watch the bitesize videos for this week for work on measurement.
Also see my videos below for work on:
Place value to 100
Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s
Watch the videos on place value and representing numbers to 100 then try below worksheet.
Draw the picture in tens/ones to represent each 2 digit number.
Watch the video and see if you can spot the patterns then look at the reasoning questions below.
Have a talk about if these are true or false and see if you can explain why?
Can you write your explanations in full sentences with some help.
Click on the YouTube link below to find online tutorials to draw characters from the Author/Illustrator, Rob Biddulph! I hope you have fun with this challenge!
Email/Tweet me with your pictures.
We have been thinking about people who help us!
This week I would like you to make a THANK YOU card for the people who help us!
You could even deliver your card on your daily exercise walk to the people who help us and really make their day!
❤️❤️ Be KIND to yourself! ❤️❤️
Here are some well being activities for you to try this week...
Please email me pictures of any home learning for our class page.
Keep up the hard work!
I am so proud of you!
Please see below details of our topics for the summer 1 term
💖🌈PHSCE Topic - Staying safe and people who help us🌈💖
For this topic I thought it would be a really good opportunity to talk to the children about doctors and nurses and everyone else in our community who are helping us during this time.
Please see attached activity below - sentences that the children can copy out onto a piece of paper and fill in the missing words of people who help us.
I think it would also be a nice idea to make a thank you poster for people who help us. The children can choose anyone who they think help us and keep us safe, nurses, firefighters, police, parents, teachers, waste collectors, the list is endless! Please email a picture of their posters for our class page.
Learning task: To add numbers to make 10
Learning task: To spell days of the week

Watch the video and play the games/quiz.

⭐️ Year 1 News ⭐️
Thank you to all our families for your support over the past few weeks. We are really going to miss having the children in school.
Please continue to check our class page here and the Kids' Zone (KS1) page for weekly messages and updates regarding home learning resources and how to help your child to continue to make progress during our school closure.
The National Phonics Screening Check for Year 1, that was due to commence in June 2020, has now been cancelled. Therefore you do not need to continue to practise the 'alien' words as previously requested. Please can children work on their phonics and reading skills by using the reading eggs app, watching and joining in with the daily phonics lessons from Mr Mc (links on the Kids' Zone page for KS1) and sharing books together.
If you need any support at all, or you have any questions, please email the office or follow and message me directly via twitter @misstaylorY1
We are still here for you! Thank you :)
Exciting news for reading in Year 1!
Year 1 now have the opportunity to practise their reading skills and have lots of fun by using the Reading Eggs online games.
Click below link for more information!
Year 1 is an important and exciting year for the children. It is the first year of Key Stage 1 and a time where children become more independent as they make a gradual change from a play-based enhanced provision to a more formal style of learning.
Useful websites for interactive phonics games and videos
In Year 1, children will have lots of opportunities to practise their phonics, reading, writing and mathematics.
They will be able to investigate and answer questions through our science, history and geography topics.
Our topics include learning about toys from the past, discovering new authors such as Sue Hendra, reading Supertato and learning all about Florence Nightingale.
I am sure the children will have lots of fun as they learn.
In Year 1 we also love to learn in a creative way! Children will experiment with many types of media to express their creativity, including painting, drawing, building and using technology.
We will also introduce children in Year 1 to the Arts Award!
