Welcome to Year 1!
Our teachers in Year 1 are...
Year 1 is an important and exciting year for the children. It is the first year of Key Stage 1 and a time where children become more independent as they make a gradual change from a play-based enhanced provision to a more formal style of learning.
It is also the year in which children will complete the national phonics screening check.

In Year 1, children will have lots of opportunities to practise their phonics, reading, writing and mathematics.
They will be able to investigate and answer questions through our science, history and geography topics.
Our topics include learning about toys from the past, discovering new authors such as Sue Hendra, reading Supertato and learning all about pirates including an enrichment dress up day.
I am sure the children will have lots of fun as they learn.
In Year 1 we also love to learn in a creative way! Children will experiment with many types of media to express their creativity, including painting, drawing, building and using technology.

Take a look at some of our adventures this year...
On Thursday 20th June 2019 we went on a building adventure to LEGOLAND!
We made spinning tops in the Design and Technology workshop and challenged each other to see who’s spinning top could spin for the longest time.
We loved the Lego factory and even made our very own Lego brick to take home! 💙
On Thursday 25th April 2019, Year 1 went to visit the farm.
We had lots of fun learning about the different animals and we also really enjoyed playing outside in the countryside!
