RE: Easter 9.3.20
In RE our topic is ‘Easter: Issues of trust and betrayal in the Easter Story.’ We have been studying Judas and Peter’s betrayal of Jesus. We have looked at who Jesus and his disciples trusted and how they were betrayed. In our lesson on 9.3.20 we used the drama technique ‘Hot Seating’ to meet and interview ‘Judas’ - expertly played by Jean. We devised beforehand some questions we would ask Judas and, as the hot seating progressed, we came up with a lot more questions!
Science Day 12.3.30 - It’s a ‘Bug’s Life’ at The Hilton Bug Hotel!
During the February half term break, Year 4 children did some research about the Tudors. They have created some great pieces to share with the class, ranging from making models of Tudor houses, posters about the Tudor family tree to making PowerPoints all about the Tudors. Well done!
On Safer Internet Day we had a special lesson about how to stay safe online. We already knew some facts about how to stay safe online as one of our PSHE topics was ‘E-Safety’. We discussed different scenarios that could happen online (such as ‘I used my real photo on my profile’) and then we had to stand at the comment we thought matched the scenario, such as ‘It’s ok’, ‘I’m not sure’ or ‘That’s not ok’. We then talked about why we choose those answers and what the right thing to do would be. We finished the lesson by making posters about online safety rules.
5.2.20 Children’s Mental Health Day
"Find Your Brave!"
We had an assembly about mental health. Soon after,we designed our own superhero about mental health. The characters had its own unique jingle on how to be courageous.
As part of our Literacy topic linked to the book 'Treasure Island', we have had fun applying for pirate jobs! Last week we looked at the different types of jobs available on a typical pirate ship. Then we started to write our job applications. We have used persuasive writing techniques to try to convince the Captain of the pirate ship 'The Hispaniola' to give us a job on board the ship. Some of us have used very persuasive language. Who will be successful? Who will get the job they applied for? Who will end up scrubbing the decks?! Who may end up walking the plank?
Pirate Job Application - 13.1.20
27/11/19. Electric Circuits
Today Year 4 completed some brilliant Science work on Electric Circuits. Their task was to build a circuit that would control a propeller. This is linked to our DT topic of making Spitfire planes, which in turn is linked to our History and Literacy topic of World War 2. With minimal help, all children quickly realised they would need to add a motor and a switch to their circuits in order to make the propeller spin round and a switch to stop and start the propeller. Well done! We have lots of budding scientists in Year 4!
27/11/19 Electric Circuits
26/11/19 R.E - Muslim Family Life
Today Year 4 had a brilliant and very informative lesson on what is like to be a Muslim child going to Mosque. The lesson was lead by Maryam and Haroon sharing their experience of mosque. Haroon read a part of the Qu’ran in Arabic and Maryam showed us how she prays and recited a prayer she had learnt off-by-heart in Arabic. Everyone was very impressed and asked lots of questions. We finished the lesson by designing information posters on the iPads, using the Picollage App, detailing what we had learned during the lesson.
